Women in Games - Workshop at a school
I have designed and hosted an interactive workshop at an independent Anglican day and boarding school for girls as part of working with Block42
The audience: 160 year eight pupils
Length: 80min
About the workshop:
We talked about Game Design and the opportunities in the Architectural Design, Healthcare (such as VR serious games to train surgeons) and Film that a knowledge of a game engine brings.
After we talked more about a level designer's workflow and dissected the first few interactions of the Super Mario Bros level World 1-1.
This theoretical part was followed by a hands on application of basic concepts of level design in order to create a believable park scene.
Believable in this context means that there are no paradoxes included in the scene, for EG a character that appears in a room with no doors is not processed by our brain as believable and hence causes a feeling that something is off.
The students successfully build a mini scene that looked similar to the Image below
